Mamma T-Rex, . . . .


Competion entry for Deviant Arts Pinkitude competition. It's in association MGM's Pinkitude program and the hugely important 'Susan G. Komen for the Cure' foundation. Please if you can support this and other simular charities as early detection is the key to breast cancer prevention among young women and teens.

I opted initially not to make any personal comment about this piece, instead leaving it to the viewer to come up with their own conclusions. However there are a couple of things I’d like to share.

I have like most, lost family members to Cancer. The biggest loss of which being my Granddad O’Brien. Granddad was a gentle giant, a modern day superman. If you knew him, you’d share the belief that there wasn’t a force in the universe that could take him down. However he became sick, fought bravely- but alas didn’t pull through. This image is dedicated to him.

More than anything I wanted to create an image that instilled Hope. Cancer is beatable. You need courage, and above all support from family and friends but you can fight it. Early detection is key to tackling any form of Cancer. Please don’t be afraid to get tested. Please don’t be afraid to ask for help!

I chose a Tyrannosaurus-Rex mother and her chicks as its widely believed in the palaeontology community that T-rex were very protective and dedicated mothers. The world is held together by the power and love of strong female role models and T-rex was one of the first.
